Sweet Tea

I've been lusting after an SLR camera for a while now. After contemplating just how much blood I would have to sell to purchase one, I realized that the boyfriend bought an expensive camera a few years ago and it just might be an SLR. He had it on the trip with him, so I had to wait until he got back but when he returned I realized it was an SLR and I immediately hijacked it. I used to get discouraged from posting projects on the blog because my point and shoot camera is crummy and the pictures never really show the clothing well. However, with my new (borrowed) camera, that's all gonna change! I've been playing around with it for a few days, taking random photos and trying to learn the settings.

Then I decided to document my new obsession for you, iced tea. It has been HOT here in Texas y'all! Over 100 degrees everyday in August so far! Obviously cold liquid is the opiate of the masses here and since I'm trying to kick my 5 million Dr. Pepper a day habit, I've been seeking out other options. Here's how I make my tea...

First of all, a few weeks ago I made several batches of herb flavored simple syrup. Easiest thing ever to make! Equal parts water and sugar, throw in a bunch of herbs and bring to a boil. Turn down to a simmer until all the sugar is melted, then take off the heat, cool and bottle.

I've been trying lots of different tea combinations. Today's is green tea and raspberry zinger. I really hate the way green tea tastes but I know it's good for me so I disguise it with other bags (I also threw in some plain black tea bags).

ingredients

I use about 8 bags and 8 cups of boiling water and I let it steep for a good 10-20 minutes to make sure it's really strong.

The two plain bottles I bought from Ikea and the one with the stickers is left over from an Italian soda. Fill them half way with tea and add a tablespoon of simple syrup (I don't like mine too sweet, so you might want to add more).

Fill the rest of the way up with water and shake. Then throw them in the fridge and you're good to go.

Best enjoyed in a mason jar with a comfy chair and a good book, because let's face it, when it's this hot, all you really want to do is not move...

Hope you're staying cool wherever you are!
