My dear sewing friends,

I'm not sure if anyone has missed me in my 5 month abscence. Some of you may never find me again (particularly with the demise of Google Reader), but I am officially back in the sewing habit. Or will be in a few days once my sewing room is complete! I have missed you and sewing more than I can say but getting married, buying and renovating a house and just generally living have gotten in the way recently. I've been keeping up with my favorite sewing blogs and buying most of the new independent patterns that have come out in the last few months (keep your eyes out for a Saltspring, a Hawthorn, some Lakeside PJs and a few Thread Theory pieces for the husband coming soon!) so I'm ready to go as soon as we finish installing new lights and I unpack all my sewing gear. Also, I'm starting a new blog called Summer of the Butterflies to record the progress as we renovate our house. This blog has helped so much to encourage me to sew and keep a record of what I've done, so I figure I should do the same thing with my house! I'll be back soon to share what happened with my wedding dress, since last you heard from me I was in a bit of a crisis. (Spoiler alert: It worked out!) In the meantime, here's a sneak peak of the dress! And yes, this is the same picture from my other blog. I really like that picture...

I love you more than root beer floats!

I was planning to post tomorrow on a few of the Christmas gifts I made this year, but I'm up late watching the premiere of Project Runway All Stars (still LOVE Anthony for comic relief, but I can't decide who I want to win. except not Kenley) and I have a dilemma I need help with.
My parents are amazing and bought me a fabulous dress form for Christmas! So my leopard print duct tape version will be taking a back seat for now in favor of my pretty new Simplicity! Please ignore the black thread on her boob, she's gotten a lot of use already...

So my dilemma is, what should I name her? Any ideas?

In related news, my old Ford Explorer finally bit the dust over Christmas. Ironically I had spent the last few months saying that 2012 was going to be the year I bought a new car, but I was thinking several months in, not the 2nd day of the year! Anyway, I got a sweet deal on basically my dream car, a white Mustang convertible. Not the most practical choice maybe but the next car I buy will be for hauling kids around, so this one can be for fun right? Only now I need a name for her too...

I've gone back and forth with the idea of doing a 2011 wrap up post, mostly because I'm lazy, so I decided instead of going back through everything I've made this year I would give you my top 5 favorite makes (in no particular order)...

Since I started sewing in 2009, I would say this has been my most productive year and a lot of it has to do with starting this blog in February. Not only has the amount of garments I've made grown significantly, but the quality of them has as well. Also, I find myself wearing them on an almost daily basis. It was interesting the first time I woke up and put on a dress I made, not because I wanted to wear something that I made, but because I just wanted to wear a cute dress. The moment handmade clothes move from "something I made" to "something I just like to wear" in your brain is pretty cool...

This blog has been such an awesome outlet for me in the last year. As I mentioned above, it's certainly upped my productivity, but it's also such a great place for support. All of my readers are so kind and encouraging in my sewing forays and it's really special to me to be part of a community of people who love the same thing and who support each other in our collective hobby. A few months ago I was gabbing to my sister about some fellow sewing bloggers and projects they'd posted and she said "I'm so glad you've found this group of people to do this with." I'm so glad I've found you too!

I know 2012 is going to be amazing for all of us. I've decided to commit more time and effort to this blog and really make sewing a bigger priority in the next year. I hope to re-vamp the blog, start some weekly series, work on my photography, work on busting my stash and hopefully get to know more of you! Here's to a great next year!
